Application for a temporary residence for the purpose of business

The amendment of the Act No. 404/2011 Coll. of the Act on the Residence of Foreigners and on Amendments to Certain Acts as amended from July 7, 2025 has brought significant changes regarding the temporary stay for the purpose of business, namely that the APPLICATION FOR THE ISSUANCE OF A TEMPORARY RESIDENCE WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO BE SUBMITTED AT OUR EMBASSIES ABROAD, no territorial exceptions applied.

The change of a territorial jurisdiction - Reservation of an appointment

When submitting applications for the issuance of a temporary residence (including the change of the purpose of a residence), applications for an issuance of a permanent residence for 5 years, applications for the issuance of a national visa, registration of a residence, submitting an application for the production of documents on residence, permanent residence of an EU resident or a family member of an EU resident, you can make a reservation at any Foreign Police department and you are not bound to the relevant Foreign Police Department.

Change of the purpose of the residence

At the Foreign Police Department an application for a change of the purpose of the residence cannot be submitted by a foreigner, who has been granted a residence

  • less than 2 years ago and wants to submit an application for a temporary residence for the purpose of business (pursuant to Art. 22),
  • pursuant to Art. 23 para. 4 (seasonal employment),
  • pursuant to Art. 24 para. 1(a); this doesn’t apply, if the third-country national has successfully passed the final exam or the school-leaving (maturita) exam as a part of their studies at a high school in the Slovak Republic,
  • pursuant to Art. 24 para. 1(b), this doesn’t apply if the third-country national has successfully ended their studies at a high school in the Slovak Republic or has achieved first-degree or second-degree education at a university in the Slovak Republic or
  • pursuant Art. 24 para 1(c) (language school).
