Strengthening the role of district offices, improving the functioning of local state administration, and enhancing the quality of public services — these were among the main topics at a nationwide working meeting of district office directors held in Liptovský Ján. The two-day event was attended by State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, Michal Kaliňák, who stated that district offices should be a key component of a modern, efficient, and citizen-friendly public administration.
“Strong district offices mean strong districts, and their activities directly influence the quality of services citizens receive. That’s why our goal is a modernization process supported by systematic reforms,” said State Secretary Michal Kaliňák.
The nationwide two-day meeting, attended by district office directors and other ministry representatives, sparked intensive discussions on challenges and reforms in public administration. The main goals were alignment of procedures, exchange of experiences, and the establishment of a shared vision for the future of district offices and customer service centers.
The discussion focused not only on operational issues but especially on strategic changes. The meeting provided valuable feedback that will help better tailor upcoming measures.
“We need to simplify processes and strengthen expertise at all levels so we can create a modern, functional, and people-oriented public administration. District offices should be more than just executive units — they must be partners to citizens and local governments,” emphasized Kaliňák. According to him, this triangle of cooperation can improve the quality of public services in regions.
The agenda also included current challenges in real estate cadastre, crisis management, crime prevention, the development of customer service centers, personnel and social affairs, financing and budgeting, and the enhancement of cooperation between support centers and district offices.
“We want to build a public administration that is understandable and efficient for the people. Regular meetings with district office directors are a key tool for aligning goals and setting modern standards for public administration in practice,” added Michal Kaliňák.
