Searching

Searching is one of the basic tasks performed by the Police Force.

The search process can only be carried out on a specific and individually identified object that has its own specific characteristics and cannot be confused with another object.

The police are asking citizens to report any information about the wanted persons by calling 158, visiting the nearest police station, or sending an email to patranie@minv.sk.

What to do if someone goes missing

  • Try to contact the person on their cell phone (don't call too often because of the battery; it's better to send a text message).
  • Find out where and with whom the person was last seen.
  • Contact their classmates, colleagues, friends, homeroom teacher, neighbors, and family as soon as possible.
  • Find out what plans they had or who they were supposed to meet.
  • Contact the police and visit the nearest police station
  • Bring a recent photo of the person and think about their description (clothing)
  • When reporting a missing person, the following information will help the police:
  • Whether they had a cell phone with them
  • Places where they usually spend time outside of home
  • contact details for friends, classmates, adults with whom they usually spend their free time, colleagues, etc.
  • information about their hobbies and possible reasons for going missing (e.g., family arguments, poor grades at school, problems at work, etc.)
  • a description of specific physical characteristics, health status, behavioral characteristics,
  • information about social media accounts,
  • inform the police about the measures you have already taken to locate the missing person

Who can report a person missing

  • Anyone can report a missing person, not just a relative of the missing person.

When does the police start searching for a missing person?

  • The police force begins searching for a missing person immediately after receiving a report of a missing person.
  •  In the Slovak Republic, there is no 24-hour deadline for reporting a missing child or person.
