Authorised geodesist and cartographer

Conditions for the obtaining of an authorisation to pursue the profession of a chartered surveyor and cartographer

The Chamber of Surveyors and Cartographers (hereinafter the “Chamber”) will register in the list of Chartered Surveyors and Cartographers a natural person who

  1. has full legal capacity;
  2. is a person of integrity;
  3. passed the qualification examination before the Chamber or has demonstrated special professional competence to pursue the profession of a chartered surveyor and cartographer, or demonstrated that his/her professional qualification has been recognised pursuant to a separate regulation. 
  4. has taken an oath.

A person acquires full legal capacity upon attaining the legal age of majority. (The legal age of majority is 18. Prior to attaining this age, a person may attain the legal age of majority by marriage.)
The qualification examination before the Chamber may be taken by a natural person with a master’s degree in geodesy and cartography and five years of professional experience in selected geodetic and cartographic activities after completing university education, or a person who demonstrated the recognition of professional qualifications.

Special professional competence may be acquired by a natural person who

  1. has a master’s degree in geodesy and cartography or education recognized by a decision issued under a separate regulation or a master’s degree in underground mine surveying and five years of professional experience in selected geodetic and cartographic activities after completing university education, or experience recognised by a decision issued under a separate regulation; and 
  2. has passed the qualification examination before the Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Authority of the Slovak Republic. Based on a passed qualification examination, the natural person will receive a certificate of special professional competence from the Authority.

Additional information on the pursuit of the profession of a chartered surveyor and cartographer

Selected geodetic and cartographic activities for the qualification examination before the Chamber are as follows:
- preparing survey plans; geodetic activities for land readjustment; determining the boundaries of land lots; setting up and updating trigonometric points; surveying, digitising and displaying objects incorporated in the basic large-scale state maps in the range of more than 0.025 sq. km; surveying, digitising and displaying objects incorporated in the large-scale thematic maps in the range of more than 0.025 sq. km; building of control nets; setting out and surveying the actual dimensions and position of building structures; measurement of shifts and deformation of building structures and technological facilities; surveying and drawing up of as-built documentation of constructions, setting out and verification of geometrical parameters of industrial installations and facilities with the exception of surveying and drawing up of as-built documentation of simple buildings and minor buildings and alterations of such buildings; and geodetic activities in the building and updating of territorial information systems which are built and updated for the purposes of the central government and local self-governments.
Selected surveying and cartographic activities for special professional competence are as follows:
- survey plans; geodetic activities for land readjustment; determining the boundaries of land lots; setting up and updating trigonometric points; surveying, digitising and displaying objects incorporated in the basic large-scale state maps in the range of more than 0.025 sq. km. 

Fees for the issuance of an authorisation to pursue the profession of a chartered surveyor and cartographer

Fee for the qualification examination to acquire special professional competence....................82.50 €

The fee may be paid:

  1. in the form of a stamp tax with the prescribed nominal value, paid to the relevant administrative authority;
  2. in the form of a cash payment to the relevant administrative authority;
  3. by a postal cheque to the bank account of the relevant administrative authority, or
  4. by a wire transfer from a bank account.

Where relevant operations and proceedings are carried out on the basis of an application sent by electronic means and signed with an electronic signature, the fee is reduced to 50% of the amount of the fee prescribed in the schedule of fees (up to €70 at the most).
Note: Applicants may pay the administrative fee using any of the aforementioned methods, but any payments made by electronic means in the form of a wire transfer from a bank account are only deemed paid when debited from the applicant’s account. (A payment confirmation does not have to be annexed to an electronic application for authorisation.)

The amount of fees for the Chamber:

- membership fee .........................................................166 €
- premium for third party liability insurance in connection with the pursuit of activities of a chartered surveyor and cartographer....30.50 €
- authorisation and stamp.................................................40 €
- qualification examination before the Chamber.................200 €
- training course for the qualification examination before the Chamber................100 € (not required)

Note:  Every member of the Chamber is obliged to pay the annual membership fee. If the duration of membership is less than half months, half of the membership fee is paid. For registration in the list of authorised persons, a one-off fee must be paid no later than as at the registration date. The payment for the qualification examination is due before the date of examination.

Application procedure for the obtaining of an authorisation to pursue the profession of a chartered surveyor and cartographer

In order to obtain an authorisation to pursue to profession of a chartered surveyor and cartographer, it is necessary to fill in an application for registration in the list of chartered surveyors and cartographers, attach the required annexes and take an oath administered by the President of the Chamber’s Board. Annexes to be attached with the application:

  1. evidence of education and experience; 
  2. certificate from the qualification examination or certificate of special professional competence; 
  3. proof of payment (payment of the membership fee, insurance premium, and payment for the issuance of an authorisation to pursue the profession of a chartered surveyor and cartographer).
