Documents necessary for travelling in the Schengen Area

Even though no systematic border checks are made when crossing internal borders within the Schengen Area, the provision of the Act No. 647/2007 Coll. on Travel Documents and on changes and amendments to some acts is binding for the nationals of the Slovak Republic: "The citizen may only travel abroad with a valid passport, if not stated otherwise in an international treaty binding for the Slovak Republic“.

A valid ID card is sufficient to prove the identity of the Slovak national aged 15+ residing in a different member state. Each Slovak national under 15 shall demonstrate his/her identity in a different member state with his/her passport. Slovak citizens aged under 5 only need to be registered in his/her parent's passport, if he/she travels with the parent whose travel document he/she is registered in.
